The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, Bauchi State Chapter, has distributed sanitary pads to 50 female students of Jibrin Aminu Model Secondary School, Bauchi, as part of activities marking the 2026 International Menstrual Hygiene Day.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, the state Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Rashida Yusuf, said the initiative was aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and supporting adolescent girls to manage their menstrual health effectively.
She explained that the programme was organized in commemoration of International Menstrual Hygiene Day, observed annually on May 30, which also intended to build the confidence of female students by assuring them that menstruation should not be a barrier to their education and personal development.
Comrade Rashida called on government agencies, philanthropists, and other organizations to complement the efforts aimed at supporting adolescent girls, particularly in the area of menstrual hygiene management.
According to her, proper menstrual hygiene education and access to sanitary products would help address many challenges faced by young girls and improve their well-being.
In his remarks, the Principal of Jibrin Aminu Model Secondary School, Malam Muhammad Abdurrahman, expressed appreciation to NAWOJ for selecting the school for the sensitization programme and distribution of sanitary materials.
He described the initiative as commendable intervention that would enhance students’ understanding of menstrual health and hygiene, while also contributing to their academic progress.
The principal assured that the donated items would be utilized judiciously for the benefit of the students.
Malam Muhammad Abdurrahman also commended Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for establishing an examination hall and Information and Communication Technology ICT centre in the school, noting that the facilities would further improve teaching and learning.
