Bauchi State Government Reaffirms Commitment to Ending Child Malnutrition

Bauchi State government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing nutritional supplements aimed at tackling malnutrition among children.
This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary of the Bauchi State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Rufai, while speaking at a two-day quarterly review meeting of the Bauchi State Committee on Food and Nutrition BSCFN, held in Bauchi.
He highlighted the achievements recorded by the committee, including identifying and engaging all relevant stakeholders in efforts to reduce the challenge of child malnutrition in the State.
The Permanent secretary emphasized the importance of providing nutritious food for the healthy growth and development of young children, noting the committee’s role in policy formulation and in mobilizing stakeholder support to achieve its objectives.
Ahmed Rufai urged the participants to contribute innovative and practical ideas that would help develop effective policies for combating child malnutrition.
In a presentation during the meeting, the Nutrition Officer from Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Abubakar Sale, stated that from January 2026 to date, the state government under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed, in collaboration with development partners, had successfully distributed more than twenty thousand cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food RUTF and Small Quantity Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplements SQLNS to primary healthcare facilities in several local government areas to support children suffering from malnutrition.
He explained that each local government area received two hundred cartons, while an additional of one hundred cartons were delivered to the internally displaced persons IDP camp in Kashere, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Abubakar Sale also commended the significant contributions of development partners in training healthcare workers at primary healthcare centres PHCs on the proper management and treatment of children presenting with malnutrition cases.
He further called on all stakeholders to strengthen their commitment to the fight against malnutrition, stressing that the community can only achieve optimal health when the challenge of malnutrition, particularly among children, is effectively addressed.
The review meeting was attended by officials from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies MDAs in Bauchi State, including the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB among others.
