The Office of the Bauchi State First Lady, in collaboration with the Hisbah Wing of the Bauchi State Shari’a Commission, has organized a one-day Ramadan lecture workshop for Islamic groups and proprietors of Islamic schools across the state.
The event, held at the International Conference Centre, Bauchi, brought together Islamic scholars, community leaders, government officials and other stakeholders to deliberate on moral re-orientation and societal development.
In her remarks, the First Lady, Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed, emphasized the critical role communities play in promoting moral values and social harmony.
She explained that Islamic school proprietors and religious leaders were specifically targeted for the workshop because of their maximum contribution to shaping the character and moral upbringing of children and youths in society.
Dr. Aisha Bala urged men and community members to fear Allah and desist from acts such as child abuse and other immoral practices that contribute to the degeneration of societal values.
She noted that beyond identifying societal problems, the workshop was also designed to chart a practical way forward in addressing moral decadence and restoring discipline and responsibility within communities.
Delivering separate lectures, Malam Muktar Aliyu spoke on moral decadence among the Younger generation ,while Malam Sayyadi Imam Hassan Sheikh Tahir Usman Bauchi presented a paper on Strengthening Relationship Between Man and His Creator.
They stressed the need for Islamic school owners, religious leaders and community members to work collectively to address moral decline in society.
Also speaking, , the Commissioner of Hisbah in the state, Barrister Aminu Balarabe Isa, explained that this year’s Ramadan lecture series focused on the theme of moral decadence.
He encouraged Islamic scholars to further highlight these issues in their respective mosques during Ramadan sermons, adding that religious leaders have a vital role to play in influencing positive behavioural change, calling on all stakeholders to join hands to ensure the success of the initiative.
In their goodwill messages, Islamic scholars in the state, Professor Zubairu Madaki, Dr. Mujtapha, Sheikh Sunusi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on International Security, Babayo Liman, and his counterpart on Moral Reorientation, Air Commodore Tijjani Baba Gamawa (rtd), observed that the workshop came at a critical time, especially in view of rising cases of gender-based violence and moral decline in society.
They noted that such engagements would help raise public awareness on legal and moral responsibilities.
In his welcome address, the Commander of the Bauchi State Shari’a Commission, Malam Muhammad Muhammad Bununu, stated that the essence of the programme was to remind Muslims of the fundamentals of Islam amid increasing un-Islamic acts such as prostitution, theft, kidnapping and armed robbery.
In a vote of thanks on behalf of the participants, the District Head of Miri, Alhaji Hussani expressed appreciation to the organizers for the opportunity and pledged to disseminate the knowledge gained during the workshop to their respective communities across the state.
