Bauchi Governor assents to Law establishing Mining Institute in Alkaleri LG

From the News Desk

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has assented to the law establishing the Mining Institute Alkaleri, Bauchi State (MIABAS), to promote mining education, develop technical skills and address illegal mining in the state.

The Information Officer of the Bauchi State Ministry of Natural Resources Development, Fatima Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a press release issued in Bauchi.

She said the governor’s assent followed the passage of the bill by the Bauchi State House of Assembly, paving the way for the establishment of a specialised institution for mining education and technical skills development.

According to her, as part of preparations for the institute’s take-off, the governor has approved the conversion of the Kaura Mineral Processing and Buying Centre in Gwaram village, Alkaleri Local Government Area, into its temporary site.

She added that, the Governor has also directed the relocation of the mineral processing and buying centre to Toro Local Government Area.

According to the statement, the institute will provide young people with practical, industry relevant training in mining, mineral processing, geology and related fields.

It is also expected to create employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, encourage local participation in the solid minerals value chain and enhance the economic benefits of the state’s mineral resources.

The ministry said the initiative forms part of the state government’s efforts to harness its solid mineral deposits for sustainable economic growth, job creation and improved livelihoods.

The statement added that further details on the institute’s administrative arrangements, academic programmes, commencement of activities and admission procedures would be announced through official channels.
