Bauchi Assembly urges Government to construct road linking Maiduguri expressway to Bidawa
By Rabiu Ishaq Muhammad:
The Bauchi State House of Assembly has called on the State Government to construct a road linking Maiduguri Expressway to Bidawa community in Azare/Madangala Constituency of Katagum Local Government Area.
The call followed a motion presented before the House by the member representing Azare/Madangala Constituency, Zakariyya Sale, who highlighted the importance of the proposed road in improving access to religious institutions, boosting commercial activities and enhancing the socioeconomic wellbeing of residents.
Presenting the motion, the lawmaker explained that road infrastructure plays a vital role in connecting communities to essential services and economic opportunities, noting that the absence of a motorable road has continued to create difficulties for residents and visitors accessing Bidawa.
Zakariyya Sale disclosed that the community hosts a mosque constructed through the support of a Russian philanthropist, Muhammad Al’amin.
According to him, the mosque serves not only as a place of worship but also as a centre for Islamic education, where people from within and outside the community gather to study the Qur’an, Hadith and other Islamic texts.
He further explained that the mosque provides religious instruction on important Islamic practices, including the ritual washing of the deceased, funeral prayers, naming ceremonies and marital obligations.
The lawmaker, however, expressed concern that the lack of a suitable access road has limited the accessibility of the mosque, thereby posing difficulties for worshippers, Islamic scholars, students and other visitors.
He added that the proposed road would also benefit farmers, traders and other residents by facilitating the movement of goods and people, improving access to healthcare and security services, as well as creating better opportunities for young people.
Contributing to the motion, member representing Chinade/Madara constituency Dr Nasiru Ahmed Ala urged the executive arm of Government to consider the construction of the road as a matter of priority, with a view to improving connectivity and promoting religious activities, commerce and socioeconomic development in Bidawa and neighbouring communities.
