Bauchi State Government rebuts media neglect claims, outlines infrastructure upgrades

The Bauchi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Usman Shehu Usman, has dismissed allegations that the state government has failed to improve media operations, describing the claims as baseless and without merit.
Speaking during a social media interactive session, the commissioner highlighted several ongoing state funded projects aimed at modernizing public broadcasting and expanding news coverage across the region.
Usman Usman noted that, the state government recently renovated Bauchi State Television (BATV) and connected the station to satellite services, enabling 24-hour broadcasting.
According to him, a new solar power system was also installed to ensure uninterrupted operations and improve competitiveness.
Addressing radio broadcasting, Usman Shehu Usman revealed that a new transmitter has been procured for the Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) AM station.
With installation work currently underway, the commissioner said the AM service is expected to resume transmission within a week with wider coverage across the state.
He added that, the BRC FM station in Azare has undergone structural repairs, including perimeter fencing, reroofing, and equipment upgrades.
To boost local information access, Usman Usman revealed that, the state government has revived ten community radio stations, equipping them with modern computers, while plans progress to establish ten additional stations in other local government areas.
The commissioner further disclosed that the state government has approved the absorption of casual staff at BATV and BRC into permanent employment.
Urging the public to disregard claims of neglect, Usman Shehu Usman reaffirmed the present administration’s commitment to strengthening state media institutions and enhancing public access to information.
