By Uzairu Dauda Bunga:

The Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammad, has urged Nigerian women to actively participate in politics and support qualified women for leadership positions across the country.

She made the call while receiving an Award of Excellence and Humanitarian Service at the 30th anniversary of the League of Women Voters of Nigeria NILOWV, themed “Rising Beyond Borders: 30 Years of Empowering Women Politically and Economically for National Development.”

The First Lady urged women to remain resilient and united despite political differences, stressing the need to support one another for community and national development.

In her remarks, NILOWV Vice President North, Hajiya Fatima Zakari, said the organisation had spent three decades promoting voter education, women’s leadership and economic empowerment, while advocating for reserved seats for women in parliament.

She called for increased support for qualified female candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that women continue to face challenges, including inadequate representation and financial constraints.

Earlier, the Bauchi State Chairperson of NILOWV, Hajiya Zainab Mohammed, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to protecting women’s voting rights and promoting their participation in politics and leadership.

Also speaking, Lecturers with the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi, Dr Abdul Ahmad Burra and Dr Safiya Iliyasu, urged women to overcome barriers to political participation, mentor one another and mobilise support for female candidates at all levels of government.
