Youth urged to shun drug abuse in Alkaleri Local Government Area

Youth in Alkaleri Local Government Area, have been urged to shun drug abuse and other social vices in order to become responsible and productive members of society.
The Bauchi State First Lady, Dr Aisha Bala Mohammed, gave the charge during the distribution of food items worth millions of naira to residents of Alkaleri under her pet project, the Al’Muhibbah Foundation.
Dr Aisha Bala Mohammed warned that drug abuse destroys the future of young people and renders them unproductive, noting that no meaningful development can be achieved when youths engage in substance abuse.
She explained that the food distribution was aimed at assisting the less privileged in the society and easing their economic burden. The First Lady urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the items in line with Islamic teachings.
She also advised parents and guardians to take greater responsibility for the moral upbringing of their children by guiding them properly and ensuring they acquire sound education that will prepare them for a better future.
Dr Aisha Bala Mohammed further called on leaders of beneficiary groups to ensure fairness and transparency in the distribution of the items within their respective communities.
In their separate remarks, Malam Adamu Muhammad, Malam Adamu Yusuf and Malam Ahmad Usman emphasized the need for improved moral training and proper upbringing of children, stressing that neglect of these values contributes to rising crime, immorality and drug abuse among youths.
They commended the First Lady for her sustained efforts in supporting vulnerable people and contributing to the social and economic development of Alkaleri Local Government Area.
In her welcome address, the Al’Muhibbah Foundation Coordinator, Hajiya Zahara’u Y. M. Baba, said the foundation is relatively new in the area but has already benefited the community on several occasions.
She described Al’Muhibbah Foundation as a non-governmental organization funded through donations and sadaqah from well-meaning individuals, aimed at assisting the less privileged. She expressed hope that the people of Alkaleri would also contribute to the foundation to enable it reach more vulnerable persons.
Items distributed included bags of rice, bags of guinea corn, wrappers, detergents and cash.
