Bauchi Assembly seeks construction of 20km Maraban Luda–Mun Bakin Kogi road

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has called on the State Government to consider the construction of an approximately 20-kilometre road linking Maraban Luda to Mun Bakin Kogi to boost agricultural production, improve rural connectivity of communities along the corridor.

The call followed a motion sponsored by Hon. Yusuf Sa’idu Ahmad, representing Zungur/Galambi Constituency, who highlighted the importance of the proposed road to the economic development of the benefiting communities.

In presenting the motion, Hon. Yusuf Sa’idu noted that residents of the affected communities depend largely on farming, irrigation and livestock production for their livelihoods, but the absence of a reliable road network continues to make the transportation of agricultural inputs, livestock and farm produce difficult and expensive, particularly during the rainy season.

He said the road is expected to pass through Targal Kanawa, Targal Fulani, Bandas, Bandas Tsakuwa, Guda and Burum Wuro Jamel before terminating at Mun Bakin Kogi.

He explained that the corridor has considerable agricultural, commercial and mineral resource potential that could be better harnessed through the provision of durable road infrastructure.

According to the lawmaker, constructing the road would facilitate the movement of people and goods, reduce transportation costs, improve access to markets and enable farmers and traders to derive greater economic benefits from their activities.

He added that, the project would also improve access to schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services while strengthening connections between rural settlements and major economic centres.

The motion therefore urged the Executive Arm of Government to consider constructing the approximately 20-kilometre road and include the project in an appropriate road infrastructure programme, subject to technical assessments and budgetary considerations.

The Assembly noted that improved road infrastructure would help address transportation challenges in the affected communities, promote rural development and create opportunities for increased agricultural and commercial activities.
