Residents of Zubuki community in Itas/Gadau Local Government Area of Bauchi State have appealed to the state government and elected representatives to urgently address the infrastructural challenges facing the area, particularly the absence of an access road and bridge linking the community to neighbouring towns.
The residents made the appeal during an interview with journalists in Zubuki, where community leaders highlighted the difficulties caused by poor transportation infrastructure and recurring seasonal flooding.
Speaking on behalf of the District Head, Malam Sa’idu Haladu commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for ongoing developmental projects across the state, including the construction of the Gadau–Itas road.
He described the project as a significant achievement in the state’s development efforts.
Despite the progress recorded in other areas, Haladu lamented that Zubuki, a major agricultural community, continues to suffer from inadequate infrastructure, particularly the absence of a bridge and accessible road network.
According to him, the community is renowned for both wet and dry season farming, with farmers producing large quantities of crops annually, adding that the lack of a bridge has made the transportation of farm produce to markets extremely difficult, affecting livelihoods and economic activities.
He called on the Bauchi State Government and the lawmaker representing the constituency at the National Assembly to facilitate the construction of road and bridge to improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth in the area.
Also speaking, a community elder, Malam Garba Sa’idu Zubuki, described the situation as critical and requiring immediate attention.
He said flooding frequently isolates the community, creating serious challenges for residents, particularly pregnant women and other vulnerable groups seeking access to healthcare and essential services.
On his part, the Sarkin Ruwa of Zubuki, Malam Isah Magaji, disclosed that several lives had been lost over the years due to persistent flooding and the lack of proper infrastructure.
The residents expressed optimism that the government and relevant stakeholders would respond to their appeal and provide the critical infrastructure needed to improve living conditions and support socio-economic development in the community.
