UNICEF seeks Bauchi traditional institutions support to eradicate polio.

The Chief of UNICEF Bauchi field office Dr. Nazhat Rafique has sought for traditional institutions support toward ensuring total compliance to the eradication of polio virus in the State.

Dr Rafique made the remarks when she led other members of UNICEF on a courtesy call to Chairman Bauchi State Emirate councils committee on health, Alhaji Uthman Bilyaminu Usman in his palace.

The Dr Nazhat Rafique said the visit seeks for the traditional institutions support to mobilize support of all resources to ensure that non- compliance issues, resistance and those children with zero dose were not left out in this campaign.

Shs spoke extensively on the need for all and sundry to be commiited towards ensuring Bauchi is free from the scourge of polio, adding that the campaign is the last chance for Bauchi to eradicate the disease, hence the need to garner support from all.

Responding, the Emir of Dass Alhaji Uthman Bilyaminu Usman expressed concern on the 13 LGA’s of zero dose decline on active support from all stakeholders to the campaign.

According to the Emir, to address the above issues, the traditional institutions with Chagari Foundation and Sultan Foundation has jointly organized sensitization to all Districts heads at the State PHCDA considering the impact of the zero dose as part of new strategy to ensure full compliance to the exercise.

Commenting on the need to improve on the cordial working partnership to see how the narrative in the state, the Emir said apart from the role modeling during flagg off campaign, it also drew its itnary to visit some LGA’s on the 3 zones of the state during the implementation exercise to address the issues of either zero dose, non compliance and resistance to the polo vaccine.
