Electricity Workers issue three-Day ultimatum over alleged assault

The Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, SSAEAC, has issued a three-day ultimatum to relevant authorities to investigate and take action over the alleged assault of its members by personnel of the Nigerian Air Force in Bauchi.
The National Deputy President of the association, Comrade Rilwanu Shehu, made this known while speaking to newsmen in Bauchi after briefing officials of the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Bauchi State Police Command on the incident.
He said the action followed an alleged invasion and assault on electricity workers by NAF personnel after the workers disconnected power supply to the Nigerian Air Force Base in Bauchi over an outstanding electricity debt of more than one-point-seven billion naira.
Comrade Rilwanu Shehu alleged that the affected workers were assaulted and taken away by the Air Force personnel while carrying out their official duties.
He said the workers were later released following the intervention of security authorities and are currently receiving treatment at home.
The SSAEAC National Deputy President questioned the safety of electricity workers in the hands of security personnel whose responsibility is to protect lives and property.
He condemned the alleged incident and said the association would no longer tolerate intimidation, harassment or assault of its members while performing their legitimate duties.
Comrade Rilwanu Shehu assured that the association would pursue all lawful means to seek justice for the affected workers and ensure their safety while carrying out their responsibilities.
He warned that failure by the relevant authorities to address the matter within three days could lead to a nationwide shutdown of services by members of the association.
