Dambam Council Tasks Forestry Workers on Tree Protection

Forestry workers of Dambam Local Government have been urged to be dedicated in ensuring that the trees planted are nurtured to benefit the community.
The call was made by the Chairman of Dambam Local Government Area, Alhaji Iliya Isa Dagauda, during a tree planting exercise organized by FOMWAN and the Islamic Green Club, which took place at the premises of the Local Government Secretariat.
The Chairman, who was represented by the Director of Administration and of the local Government, Alhaji Umar Maigari, said they will do their best to ensure the trees are protected through the forestry officials in the Local Government.
He commended FOMWAN and all those who contributed to the success of the program, stating that it will help reduce the threat of desert encroachment.
In her address, the State Amirah of FOMWAN, Hajiya Lami Umar Hassan, said FOMWAN is an organization that carries out its activities in the areas of education, healthcare, Da’awah, and humanitarian services.
It was through its humanitarian wing that they organized the tree planting exercise in collaboration with sponsors, the Islamic Green Club, to combat desertification, especially in Eastern Bauchi where it is most severe.
On her part, the Chairperson for Humanitarian Services of FOMWAN in the State, Hajiya Fatima A. Dahuwa, said that considering the rate at which trees are being felled, stressed the need to plant more in order to have adequate air.
Hajiya Fatima Dahuwa expressed hope that the Local Government officials will contribute their quota by ensuring that the trees are properly cared for.
In her address, the representative of the Islamic Green Club, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim Kilishi, explained that the Islamic Green Club partnered with FOMWAN to distribute trees, especially in areas that are threatened by desert encroachment.
Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim Kilishi then called on the general public to be keen on tree planting to fight the problem of desert encroachment in the entire country.
In her welcome address the Amirah of Danbam local Government Hajiya Jamila Muhammad Danbam commended the effort of state FOMWAN for organizing the tree planting Compaign and pledged to emulate them at the grassroots.
