Bauchi State House of Assembly has considered a motion seeking the upgrade of Primary Healthcare Centres in Bara and Beni communities of Kirfi Local Government Area into fully functional cottage or general hospitals.
The motion, sponsored by Member representing Kirfi Constituency, Barrister Habibu Umar was seconded by member representing Sade constituency Lawal Dauda.
Presenting the motion, Barr. Habibu Umar stressed that, health remained one of the most critical responsibilities of government, noting that the wellbeing of citizens determined the strength of any society.
He observed that, Bara, which accounts for a significant portion of Kirfi’s population, depends on a single overstretched Primary Healthcare Centre, while Beni is the most disadvantaged in terms of access to healthcare.
He urged the Bauchi State Government, through the Ministry of Health, to upgrade the two facilities with adequate staffing, infrastructure, and equipment.
The lawmaker also called on the House Committee on Health to liaise with the Ministry and other stakeholders to conduct an assessment visit and make appropriate recommendations.
In his contribution, Speaker of the House, Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, commended Barr. Habibu for the initiative, and expressed confidence that the Ministry of Health would carry out the necessary evaluation.
Also contributing, the Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Lawal Dauda, applauded the motion, describing it as timely and deserving as well as emphasized the need for the House to act swiftly to ensure improved healthcare access for the people of Kirfi.
