Bauchi State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed three commissioner as members of the state executive council.
This is coming after the Commissioner nominees appeared before the state lawmakers to answer constitutional questions after which the House at a committee of whole resolved to confirmed their appointment.
Those confirmed by the house include Sani Muhammad Dambam from Dambam Local government, Zainab Baban Takko from Bauchi Local government and Muhammad Abdulkadir Binni from Itas-Gadau Local government.
Also during the plenary, bill for a law to repeal the Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable children law 2023 and re-enact the law to provide for the establishment of the BASOVCA has passed second reading at the state house of assembly.
The bill is sponsored by the member representing Kirfi constituency Barrister Habib Umar during plenary presided by speaker Abubakar Y. Sulaiman.
Leading a debate on the bill, the lawmaker said the objectives of the agency is to ensure the protection of orphans and vulnerable children through improved policy and legislation and by channeling resources to communities particularly those with disproportionate number orphans.
Others he said include, to strengthen the capacity of families to protect and care for the orphans and vulnerable by prolonging the lives of parents and caregivers and by providing economic and psychosocial and other risk as well as to establish mechanism that will facilitate access to essential services and reduce inequalities.
In his ruling, the speaker Abubakar Y. Suleiman after the debate by the lawmakers referred the bill to the house committee on cabinet and is given two weeks to report back for legislative action.
Meanwhile, during the plenary, member representing Bauchi Central constituency in the state assembly Jamilu Umaru Dahiru has called on the state government to extend its hand of gesture to a private rehabilitation centre owned by Malam Kawu at Yakubu Wanka, Bauchi Local government.
Jamilu Dahiru in his presentation appealed to the state government through BASOVCA to determine certain amount of money to be release to the rehabilitation centre monthly to enable take good care of the children taken to him for rehabilitation.
He also appealed to government through relevant agencies consider the renovation of the environment to make it more habitable for the children to stay.
In another development, the member representing Zungur/Galambi constituency Sa’idu Yusuf Ahmed has called on the state government to come up with modalities to ensure prompt settlement of all benefits of retired workforce in the state
