The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Dr.Abubakar Y. Suleiman says that Nigeria and Africa’s history of political leadership would not be complete without the mention of Sir, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa at the forefront.
He stated this during a lecture with a theme ‘Peace as an Inspiration for National Development; the Legacies of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Ɓalewa’ organized by the Sir. Abubakar Tafawa Ɓalewa Centre for Peace and Security Studies, Sa’adu Zungur University, Bauchi.
Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman said that Nigeria’s first and last Prime Minister was a personality who sacrificed his knowledge, time and devoted his entire life towards securing independence for Nigeria and many other African Countries.
He opined that the Prime Minister worked tirelessly for peace, progress and development of our country and the African continent till it came out of the shackles of colonialism.
The speaker recognized the unwavering commitment, dedicative services and humanitarian efforts of the leader and mentor in the State, the man who transformed governance, leadership and politics not only in Bauchi State but the entire landscape of Nigeria.
The parliamentarian suggested that the lecture should be made an annual event for many to adopt the lifestyle of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Ɓalewa.
In his lecture presentation, Major General Sani Usman Kuka Sheƙa (Rtd) said that the lecture was not just intellectual discourse but a wakeup call for sober reflection and inspiration to leaders in championing stewardships to the populace.
According to him, the Sir. Abubakar’s commitment to peace remained relevant through dialogue and diplomacy as guiding frameworks, he pounded that emulation of the legacies would help in social, economic and political developments.
Major General Sani Usman (Rtd) reiterated that only through mediation, dialogue and diplomacy that peace and national integration could be maintained.
He advised that for peace to reign in Nigeria, there is a need for all to do away with economic disparity, political instability and youth restiveness.
In her welcome address, Vice Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University, Professor Fatima Tahir noted that the legacies of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Ɓalewa could not be ignored as they assist in recounting past, building the present and projecting beneficial future.
She thanked Governor Bala Mohammed for all he has been doing to make the University a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning,
Speaking on behalf of the family, Hajiya Hauwa Abubakar Tafawa Ɓalewa thanked Almighty Allah for giving them a father who left them with zero Kobo but bag full of knowledge, wisdom and compassion toward uplifting humanity.
