Bauchi State House of Assembly has called on the State Government to include the construction of a 12-kilometre Sabuwar Kaja–Kurmi road in the 2027 Appropriation Bill to improve transportation and stimulate economic activities in the area.

The call followed a motion presented by the member representing Burra Constituency, Ibrahim Tanko Burra, during plenary.

Moving the motion, the lawmaker described road infrastructure as a critical driver of rural development, noting that good road networks enhance access to healthcare and education, promote agricultural productivity and facilitate trade and other economic activities.

He explained that Kurmi, one of the oldest settlements in Ningi Local Government Area, has enormous agricultural and economic potential, but continues to face developmental challenges due to the absence of an accessible road linking it with other communities.

According to him, the poor condition of the route, particularly during the rainy season, has subjected residents to years of hardship, making it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to markets and for traders to conduct their businesses.

Ibrahim Tanko Burra maintained that constructing the road would open up the community to greater economic opportunities, attract investment, create employment and boost the revenue base of the state.

The motion also urged the Ministry of Works and Transport to conduct the necessary feasibility studies, engineering surveys and cost assessments to facilitate the project’s inclusion in the 2027 budget.

It further called on the State Government to accord the project priority and ensure that construction commences immediately after the passage and approval of the 2027 Appropriation Bill.

Meanwhile, the House has passed into law, a bill that provide for the establishment of the Bauchi State Vigilante, youth empowerment and forestry security service agency.
