By Hussaini Aliyu:
The Managing Director of the Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC), Alhaji Umar Muhammad Shira, has been commended for improving working conditions and providing essential operational materials to community radio stations in the Bauchi State.
The commendation was made by the Manager of BRC FM Bununu, Alhaji Abdurrahman Ahmad Tukur, during the station’s monthly quality control meeting with staff and management in Bununu.
Alhaji Abdulrahman Tukur said the meeting was organised to assess staff performance, productivity and individual contributions towards achieving the station’s objectives and improving service delivery.
He noted that, the provision of essential working materials by the BRC Managing Director had strengthened the operational capacity of community radio stations, enabling them to perform their duties more effectively and compete with other media organisations.
The manager urged staff to demonstrate greater dedication, discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities, stressing the need for collective commitment to the station’s growth and development.
He also commended the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, and the State Commissioner for Information for approving the permanent employment of more than 150 casual and volunteer staff of BRC and community radio stations across the state.
He called on the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture through improved productivity, commitment and responsible service to the public.
Addressing the station’s financial challenges, Alhaji Abdulrahman Tukur expressed concern over its limited revenue sources and appealed to communities in Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro Local Government Areas to support BRC FM Bununu by sponsoring some of its programmes.
He explained that increased community participation and programme sponsorship would help sustain the station’s operations and strengthen its capacity to serve the information needs of residents.
The manager also appealed to the BRC Managing Director and the Director in charge of community radio stations to provide standardised life jackets and official identification materials for community radio personnel.
According to him, the materials would enhance staff safety and facilitate proper identification while carrying out official assignments, particularly in situations where they might encounter harassment from security personnel.
In their separate remarks, the Head of News, Hussaini Aliyu Bar, represented by the Head of Sports, Hassan Aliyu Bar; the Head of Programmes, Aminu Usman Dass; and another staff member, Dauda Abdullahi Tallaran, pledged their commitment to promoting the growth and development of the station.
They also appealed to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to consider granting permanent employment to other casual and volunteer staff working with BRC and community radio stations across the state.
The staff expressed optimism that extending permanent employment opportunities to the remaining eligible workers would boost morale, enhance productivity and strengthen broadcasting services across Bauchi State.
