Katagum LG begins distribution of over 200,000 Insecticide-Treated Mosquito Nets.

The wife of Katagum Local Government Council Chairman, Hajiya Siddiqa Yusuf Babayo Zaki, has launched the distribution of more than 200,000 insecticide-treated mosquito nets to residents of the local government.
The exercise, which commenced on Monday at the Katagum Local Government Secretariat, is aimed at strengthening malaria prevention efforts and reducing the spread of the disease across communities in the area.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of Health, Katagum Local Government Area, Alhaji Jibril Muhammad Inuwa, commended the council chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Babayo Zaki, for his support towards the successful implementation of the exercise.
He explained that the mosquito nets were supplied by the Bauchi State Government for distribution across all parts of the local government as part of the periodic malaria prevention campaign.
Alhaji Jibril Muhammad urged residents to make proper and consistent use of the nets by sleeping under them, stressing that effective utilisation would contribute significantly to reducing malaria infections.
He also appreciated security personnel in the local government for their cooperation and support, and called for continued assistance throughout the distribution exercise.
Also speaking, the Local Government Health Educator, Malam Adamu Inuwa, educated beneficiaries on the proper use and care of the treated mosquito nets.
He advised beneficiaries to spread the nets in a shaded area for about 24 hours after receiving them before use, and to strictly follow the recommended instructions.
Malam Adamu Inuwa warned residents against using the nets for farming or other purposes, advising them to return damaged nets to the Local Government Health Department.
In her remarks, Hajiya Siddiqa Yusuf Babayo Zaki appreciated government agencies and development partners involved in providing the mosquito nets.
She described malaria as a major public health threat and urged residents to collect their nets between September 27 and October 3, 2026, as part of the ongoing malaria prevention campaign.
The District Head of Azare, Engineer Galadima Magaji, commended the Bauchi State Government under Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for its efforts to combat malaria in Katagum and across the state.
He urged residents to comply with the guidelines on the proper use of the nets, noting that government and development partners had committed substantial resources to the intervention.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Katagum Local Government, Yusuf Babayo Zaki, stressed the importance of adhering to the guidelines for the successful implementation of the distribution exercise.
He said the nets were provided to protect the health of residents and commended the Local Government Health Department for its dedication and commitment to the programme.
