Stakeholders from Gamawa Local Government Area have assured of their plan to come up with Education Model aimed at encouraging enrollment, retention and completion of students.
The Emir of Gamawa, Alhaji Adamu Abdulkadir Adamu, made the disclosure when the management of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB and UNICEF paid him an advocacy visit at his palace.
The Emir said they have implemented various measures, including inspection of school attendance, which has increased students’ enrollment in the local government area, as observed by UNICEF in previous years.
He attributed the high rate of Almajiri to the number of out-of-school children in Gamawa Local Government Area and urged the state government to rehabilitate the Government Arabic College, Gamawa.
The Emir called on politicians and relevant stakeholders to work in close collaboration to improve the standard of education in Bauchi State.
Alhaji Adamu Abdulkadir also thanked the Bauchi State Government for upgrading and renovating the Gamawa Emirate Council.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Abubakar Isa Baba, represented by Permanent Commissioner I, Alhaji Isiaku Sulaiman Abdullahi, said the advocacy visit was to seek the Emirate’s support towards protecting school facilities against vandalism and theft by unpatriotic persons.
He appealed to the traditional leader to sensitize parents and guardians on the importance of education for their children and wards.
The SUBEB Chairman attributed insecurity and other vices to the high rate of illiteracy among the populace.
