Borno State hosts the 40th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition.

The 40th edition of the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition and annual anniversary has commenced in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, with a call on participants to uphold sincerity, commitment and deep understanding of the Glorious Qur’an throughout the event.

The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar El-Kanemi made the appeal during the opening ceremony, urging contestants to demonstrate discipline and uphold the values of the Qur’an in their recitations.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Professor Bashir Garba, described the gathering as a celebration of the Glorious Qur’an.

He noted that the Qur’an provides a solid foundation for believers, strengthens their relationship with Allah, purifies the heart, inspires good intentions, and offers spiritual comfort.

Professor Usman Garba commended the Borno State Government for adequately funding the competition, describing the support as a milestone in the effective propagation of Islam.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Alhaji Bukar Tijjani, urged the participants to put into practice the knowledge they have acquired.

He prayed that the competition would contribute to sustained peace in Borno State and the country at large.

Alhaji Bukar Tijjani also applauded Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his continuous support for both Qur’anic and Western education.

Declaring the competition open, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, described the event as a platform for spiritual excellence, moral discipline and values that promote peace as enshrined in the Qur’an.

He prayed that Allah would accept the competition as an act of worship and make it beneficial to the Muslim Ummah.
