Bauchi State Government has formally inaugurated State Land Use and Allocation Committee, tasking it with critical role of advising government on land management, revenue generation, and title regularization.
Presiding over the inauguration at the Deputy Governor’s Conference Hall, Government House, Bauchi, the Secretary to State Government, Alhaji Aminu Hammayo, described the committee’s formation as carrying profound legal weight, emphasizing that the inauguration was not just a procedural formality, but an act of creation as enshrined in Land Use Act of 1978, CAP L5 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004, Section 2.
Alhaji Hammayo charged committee members to serve as key advisors to Governor on all matters pertaining to land management, and also outlined their core mandate to include settlement of persons affected by land revocation, determining appropriate compensation payable, exploring avenues for creating new layouts, and enhancing internally generated revenue.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman of the committee and Commissioner for Land and Survey, Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad Gwaram, acknowledged the significant responsibility before them, describing task ahead as a very huge one but assured government and people of Bauchi that the committee would give its best to achieve desired aims.
Alhaji Gwaram stated that while there were many issues surrounding lands in state, with this committee in place, they would ensure many of these challenges were addressed, but solicited for cooperation and understanding.
In his welcome address, Secretary of the Committee, Alhaji Maijama’a Umar Mahmud, elaborated on specific objectives and purposes behind the committee’s formation, reiterating government’s commitment to sanitizing land sector and making it a catalyst for development in Bauchi State.
