Bauchi State Assembly moves to strengthen emergency fire response in Darazo LG.

The Member Representing Darazo Constituency Builder Sa’idu Sulaiman Darazo has called on the State Government to establish a standard and fully equipped Fire Service Station in Darazo Local Government Area to serve as a regional emergency response hub.
Moving the motion, Sa’idu Suleiman expressed concern that a fire service truck worth millions of naira, donated to the area, is currently parked and under utilised at the Darazo Divisional Police Station due to the absence of a befitting fire service station, office accommodation and trained personnel.
He noted that, the situation had defeated the purpose of providing the fire fighting equipment to the area, particularly at a time when communities require quick intervention during fire outbreaks and other emergencies.
The lawmaker said Darazo shares boundaries with Ganjuwa, Dambam and Misau Local Government Areas while also maintaining proximity to Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State and Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
He argued that establishing a standard fire service station in Darazo would not only benefit residents of the local government but also provide a regional emergency response mechanism for neighbouring communities.
According to him, the facility would help reduce response time to fire incidents and other emergencies, thereby protecting lives, property and critical infrastructure such as schools, primary healthcare centres, markets, government offices and private businesses.
Sa’idu Suleiman further expressed concern that the continued absence of a dedicated fire service station exposes the large population of Darazo and neighbouring local government areas to avoidable risks and economic losses.
He also said the establishment of the station would create employment opportunities for youths in the area through the recruitment of fire service personnel and other support services.
The lawmaker said the initiative would strengthen emergency preparedness and improve the protection of lives and property across the affected communities.
The House therefore called on the state government to provide suitable land, construct office and fire-truck bay facilities, procure additional fire fighting equipment, water tankers and protective gear, as well as recruit, train and deploy qualified personnel to man the station.
