Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Health and Human Services has vowed to work hand in hand with the Bauchi State Drugs and Medica Consumables Management Agency in complementing government efforts of enhancing healthcare procurement system.
The Chairman of the health committee and member representing Sade Constituency Hon. Lawal Dauda dropped this hint during the committee’s oversight visit to the agency.
He said the collaboration is aimed to strengthen healthcare procurement processes to contribute to the overall improvement of health delivery in Bauchi.
According to Lawal Dauda,despite the significant progress made by the Medical and consumables agency in advancing Healthcare procurement and improving the well being of the people, there is the need for the to re-stratigize and ensure sustainable health commodity supply across the state.
He revealed that the committee is not out to witch hunt any one, rather to get a first hand information of the agency’s activities, progress and challenges with a view to proper lasting solution geared toward reforming and achieving a robust and efficient procurement system.
The Chairman of the committee added that, healthcare services required to be given immediate attention, hence the need for the agency to provide standard drugs at affordable price to the citizenry and as well, ensure government implementation designed policies that will prioritize the health care system is protected.
Lawal Dauda remarked that, the committee after compiling its report will make recommendations and advised the state government where necessary, to turn the fortune of health care in the state.
Other members of the committee, Sale Hodi Jibir, Bello Sarkin Jadori, Ahmed Abdullahi, Hamza Sa’idu admonished the agency and other health relevant agency to be accountable, prudence and honest in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Responding, the Managing Director, Bauchi State Drugs and Medical Consumables management Agency, Abdulkadir Ahmed said the agency is committed to strengthen and administer the operation of drugs Revolving fund and ensure effectively management of procurement, supply and distribution of drugs as well as medical Consumables of the state.
According to him, the agency is supporting warehousing and distribution of donated drugs and Medical equipment from international development partners, civil society organizations and philanthropists for onward distribution to healthcare centres across the state.
Abdulkadir Ahmed recalled that, the state government has recently signed 250 million naira MOU with 7 commodity supply companies to achieve the vision of enhancing healthcare procurement system.
He assured to work in synergy with the state house of assembly especially, the health committee for effective and efficient health care services to the citizenry.
