The National Union of Bauchi State Students NUBASS, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi Chapter, has reaffirmed and reinstated the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Dr Usman Bilyaminu Uthman, as its Grand Patron, in a move aimed at strengthening institutional support and advancing student welfare initiatives in his Palace.
Speaking during the engagement, the NUBASS President, Comrade Abdurrazak Musa Hamza, described the Dass Emirate as one with a rich historical and cultural heritage, particularly highlighting its renowned Sallah festivities.
He commended the Emir for his resilience and commitment to maintaining peace and stability within Dass, noting that his leadership continues to serve as a model of traditional governance.
The President also highlighted the challenges confronting the Union and appealed for the Emir’s support and intervention, particularly in facilitating assistance from relevant stakeholders to enable the union effectively carry out its activities.
As part of the proceedings, NUBASS formally presented a letter of reinstatement and reconfirmation to the Emir, reaffirming his position as Grand Patron of the union.
In his remarks, the NUBASS Secretary General, Comrade Aliyu Adamu Faggo, acknowledged the Emir’s contributions to the development of the emirate, commending his sustained efforts toward community growth and social advancement.
Responding, the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Dr Usman Bilyaminu Uthman, described the development as significant and welcomed the continued recognition, noting that such engagements strengthen the relationship between students and traditional institutions.
He emphasised that student unions have a critical role in promoting welfare, discipline, and constructive engagement among students, urging NUBASS to remain focused on its core objectives.
The Monarch further encouraged the union to organise academic support initiatives, including tutorials, to enhance the capacity of Bauchi State students for the benefit of the institution, the state, and the country at large.
He advised NUBASS to maintain peaceful and cooperative relations with institutional authorities, cautioning against actions that could disrupt academic activities.
Alhaji Dr Usman Bilyaminu Uthman also stressed the need for collaboration with other student bodies to address common challenges through dialogue and collective action.
The Emir commended the leadership of NUBASS, particularly its initiative to sponsor 50 students for scholarship application fees, describing it as commendable effort toward educational support and empowerment.
The reaffirmation underscores a renewed partnership between NUBASS Federal Polytechnic Bauchi Chapter and the Dass Emirate, reflecting a shared commitment to student welfare, academic excellence, and community development in Bauchi State.
