Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State has joined the global community in commemorating the 2026 World Contraception Day, with a call for improved access to family planning services to help reduce maternal mortality and unsafe abortions.
Speaking to women at the Primary Health Care Centre, Bogoro, the Family Planning Focal Person, Mrs. Yelkon Masoyi, said the 2026 theme, “No Barriers, Just Choices: Contraceptive Access Now,” underscores the need to ensure that women and families have access to reliable information and appropriate contraceptive services.
Mrs. Yelkon Masoyi disclosed that family planning services are provided free of charge at healthcare facilities across the Local Government Area. She therefore encouraged residents to visit the nearest health facility to obtain accurate information and appropriate services.
She said contraception could save lives and improve the well being of families, while urging residents to disregard misconceptions about contraceptive methods and their side effects.
The Family Planning Focal Person also called on men to support their partners in accessing reliable information and appropriate family planning services, stressing that proper child spacing could contribute to reducing maternal and neonatal deaths.
According to her, effective family planning enables families to better plan for their children, improve household well-being and contribute to healthier and more prosperous communities.
Mrs. Yelkon Masoyi commended the Bauchi State Government for its achievements in the health sector and appreciated the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for providing adequate manpower to health facilities across the state and Local Government Area.
She said the support had contributed to increased uptake of family planning services, particularly among rural communities.
Also speaking, the Women Development Officer in Bogoro, Mrs. Mbam Dakuna, commended the Executive Chairman of Bogoro Local Government Area, Pastor Zakka Luka Magaji, for his prompt interventions in supporting various programmes aimed at improving the well-being of residents.
She disclosed that the programme was funded by the Bauchi State Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board, in collaboration with UNFPA.
She urged women to take advantage of government-supported family planning services, describing them as important measures for promoting the health and well-being of women, children and families.
