BERI trains 40 female teachers in Misau and Shira on Tuberculosis Prevention

The Better Life Restoration Initiative (BERI) has trained 40 additional female teachers from Misau and Shira Local Government Areas of Bauchi State on tuberculosis prevention, early identification and referral of suspected cases.
Speaking to newsmen, the State Coordinator of BERI, Mr. Nkem Obama, said the training was designed to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to identify tuberculosis symptoms and facilitate timely referral of affected persons to appropriate health facilities.
He said the training covered the signs and symptoms of tuberculosis, referral pathways to health facilities, as well as referral systems for HIV, tuberculosis and malaria services.
According to him, participants were also trained on reproductive health, school safety, gender-related barriers to healthcare, stigma and discrimination.
Mr. Obama explained that strengthening teachers’ health knowledge would enable them to raise awareness among students and members of their communities, promote early identification of tuberculosis symptoms and ensure that people in need of medical attention are referred promptly to health facilities.
The BERI coordinator called for stronger collaboration among relevant stakeholders to address barriers to healthcare access, tackle stigma and discrimination, and promote safe and healthy learning environments.
He added that improving teachers’ knowledge and referral skills would contribute to greater health awareness and better access to essential healthcare services in communities across the state.
