Bauchi State House of Assembly has called on the state government to provide a lasting solution to the perennial floods that kill many and displace thousands annually across the state.
The House made the resolution after receiving complaints from various state lawmakers on flood that washed away houses, animals, and food worth several millions of naira in their constituencies.
Sale Zakariyya of Azare/ Madangala constituency explained that the flood, has washed away and property and houses especially in Kajuru, Dukuwarki and Katsalle among others.
He attributed the incident to the construction of shops and house by individuals in the affected villages.
Similarly the, member representing Hardawa Constituency Babayo Mohammed Akuyam has called on the state government to activate lasting solutions to the flooding issues experienced by the villagers by building conducive drainage system in his constituency.
According to him, more than one hundred house holds were displaced by the flood disaster especially in Garin Makera and appealed to the state Emergency Management Agency to come to the aid of the victims.
On his part, the member representing Udubo Constituency in Gamawa local government Lele Ahmad said the recent flood in the area has killed three people with many houses destroyed.
In his ruling, the speaker Abubakar Y. Sulaiman has made recommendations to the state government on building large waterways in the affected areas especially in Azare, Sade, Ganjuwa, Itas/Gadaus villages.
He also advised the state government to collaborated with sister agencies to design strategies which were issued to the communnities.
