Bauchi Sports Commissioner urges Youths to embrace skills and shun violence

The Bauchi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Bashir Yau, has described youths as the backbone of development in every society and urged them to acquire skills and engage in legitimate businesses to improve their livelihoods.

The Commissioner made the call while speaking with our reporter in Azare, urging young people across the state to remain committed to personal development and contribute positively to the growth of their communities.

He encouraged youths to embrace skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and other legitimate economic activities as pathways to self-reliance.

Bashir Ya’u also appealed to parents to discourage their children from engaging in political thuggery and other forms of violence.

He cautioned politicians against using youths to advance political interests, noting that such practices could fuel insecurity and create social problems in communities.

On sports development, the Commissioner said the ministry would continue to prioritise youth welfare and promote sporting activities in the state.

He described sports as an important contributor to economic development, particularly disciplines such as football, boxing and wrestling, which he said have the potential to create opportunities for young people.

Bashir Ya’u further expressed his readiness to collaborate with the newly constituted management committee of Wikki Tourists Football Club to revive the team and restore its glory.

He said the effort would be anchored on transparency, accountability and commitment, in line with the vision of the state government.

On politics, the Commissioner described the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) as the platform adopted by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to sustain his administration’s development agenda in Bauchi State.

He said the party had presented credible candidates for the 2027 elections and urged residents to support candidates capable of promoting development and improving the welfare of the people.

Bashir Yau reaffirmed his commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to empower youths, strengthen sports development and promote a peaceful, productive and prosperous future for the people of Bauchi State.
