Bauchi First Lady strengthens support for drug rehabilitation and women’s empowerment in Bauchi

The Bauchi State First Lady, Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed, has intensified efforts to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of persons affected by drug abuse while empowering vulnerable women to embrace lawful and productive livelihoods.

Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed made this known during separate engagements with persons undergoing rehabilitation under the care of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Bauchi State Command, and women receiving counselling through the Bauchi State Hisbah Board.

During her visit to the NDLEA Command, the First Lady interacted with persons undergoing rehabilitation as well as suspects detained over alleged drug-related offences.

She offered words of encouragement, prayers and advice, urging them to learn from their experiences, desist from drug abuse and other unlawful activities, and use the opportunity to reform their lives.

Dr. Aisha Bala encouraged them to acquire useful skills and prepare themselves for a responsible and productive return to society, stressing that they should not lose hope despite their circumstances.

She also listened to some of their concerns and assured them of her continued interest in initiatives aimed at improving their welfare and supporting their reintegration into society.

As part of her humanitarian gesture, the First Lady provided food items and drinking water for the persons at the facility.

Receiving the First Lady, the Commander of the NDLEA Bauchi State Command, CN Hassan Yaqub, commended the First Lady for her visit and concern for people affected by drug-related challenges.

He said the command was making efforts to provide vocational and other skills training to enable those under its care become self-reliant and productive after their release.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the First Lady for her visit, prayers and encouragement, describing the gesture as a source of hope and motivation.

In a related development, Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed, in collaboration with the Bauchi State Hisbah Board, counselled women in Tudun Wadan Dan Iya, urging them to abandon negative behaviours and embrace lawful and productive means of livelihood.

She called on the women to make firm decisions to change their lives, seek Allah’s guidance and remain committed to building a better future for themselves and their families.

The Permanent Commissioner of the Bauchi State Hisbah Board, Barrister Aminu Balarabe Isa, commended the First Lady for her efforts towards reforming and supporting vulnerable women.

He cautioned that anyone who returned to prohibited activities after counselling would face appropriate action by the Hisbah Board.

To this end, the First Lady provided empowerment materials and other items to support their livelihoods and enable them to become self-reliant.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed and prayed for Allah to reward her abundantly and grant her continued strength and wisdom to support vulnerable women and other people in need across Bauchi State.
