Alkaleri LG Education Secretary urges parents to prioritise Girls’ education.
By Muhammad Alhaji:
The Education Secretary of Alkaleri Local Education Authority in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Ibrahim Shehu Musa, has called on parents to ensure the proper enrolment of their children in schools, particularly girls, to enable them to acquire both Western and Islamic education.
He made the call during an interview with newsmen at the Education Authority Secretariat in Alkaleri while speaking on the growing problem of school dropout in the area.
Ibrahim Shehu expressed concern over the rising rate of school dropouts, attributing the situation partly to the failure of some parents to prioritise their children’s education.
He noted that despite the employment of additional teachers across the Local Education Authority, some parents were still reluctant to send their children to school, choosing instead to engage them in farming activities.
The Education Secretary stressed the need for parents to understand the importance of education and ensure that every child receives the basic knowledge and skills necessary for personal development and meaningful contributions to society.
He also appealed to traditional and religious leaders to support efforts to address the problem by sensitising their communities on the importance of enrolling children in school, particularly girls.
According to him, educating a girl benefits not only the individual but also the entire community, emphasising that girls’ education remains a vital tool for societal development.
Ibrahim Shehu further urged teachers to remain committed to their duties and stay at their respective places of assignment, regardless of the number of pupils enrolled in their schools, to ensure that children in all communities have access to education.
