Bauchi State House of Assembly has reaffirms its legislative commitment to grassroots development
The Chairman, Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Cooperatives and member Representing Dass Constituency Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi disclosed this during the committee’s oversight visit to skills acquisition centers in Itas/Gadau, Jama’are, Shira, Giade and Katagum local government areas.
He said the inspection visit to the local government councils Skill Acquisition Center was part of efforts to deepen youth and women empowerment in the areas.
Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi added, the visit was aimed at assessing the condition of the facility, engaging with instructors and trainees, and exploring ways to enhance its capacity for effective service delivery.
Addressing the trainees at some of the centers visited, the chairman of the committee described skill acquisition as a cornerstone of sustainable empowerment, equipping young people and women with practical tools for self-reliance and financial independence.
He restated the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed’s commitment to improving the center’s infrastructure and resources, noting that investment in vocational training is a direct investment in the socio-economic growth and resilience.
Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi announced plans by the state government to revitalize skills acquisition centers across the state to provide a safe and adequate learning environment, which directly improves the quality of training and makes graduates more employable.
According to him, the revitalization of centers will also foster economic growth by equipping youth with the skills needed to start businesses and contribute to the local economy, creating self-reliance and sustainable development.
He then appealed to the local government council chairmen to assist the centers with the needed training facilities to attract more youths and women.
Conducting the chairman and his entourage round the skills acquisition centers, the Directors of Education and Social Development of the local councils, explained that the centers currently runs several vocational programmes, including Computer Studies, Barbing, Tailoring, Catering, Hairdressing, Bag Making, Make-Up, Tie and Dye, and Bead Making, among others.
