BAHA Speaker pledges support for the welfare of Persons Living with Disability.
The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly has pledged support for the welfare of persons living with Disabilities in the state.
He made the pledge when he received Bauchi State Coaliation of Disabled Rights and Inclusive Initiatives Forum on an advocacy visit in his office.
He called on well meaning Nigerians to also consider the plight of the persons living with disabilities across the state.
The Speaker noted that the state house of assembly would continue to support initiatives that focus on children, women and the disabled.
Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman assured the group that the house would direct its relevant committee to revisit the law that protects the rights of persons living with disabilities, saying the committee will do justice on the proposed bill.
Earlier, the leader of the Coaliation, Mahmood Abdullahi said they were in the Speaker’s office for an advocacy visit and to present their proposed bill on the need to establish the Bauchi State Commission for persons with disabilities.
He said the bill when passed into law, will safeguard the right and welfare of persons with disabilities, prohibit all forms of discrimination against them, and promote equality of opportunity in all aspects of life.
Also speaking, a member of the coalition, Kabiru Garba Ningi said Gombe, Lagos, Plateau and other states have domesticated similar laws and appealed to the members of the state assembly to pass the proposed bill in Bauchi to secure the dignity rights and future of every persons with disabilities in Bauchi
