Nigeria @66: Broadcast Media Remains The Bedrock of Economic and Democratic Advancement
NIGERIA AT 66: BROADCAST MEDIA REMAINS THE BEDROCK OF ECONOMIC AND DEMOCRATIC ADVANCEMENT
The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has said that despite the excruciating challenges confronting the media sector, the broadcast media remains committed to advancing the economic and democratic development of the country.
In a goodwill message to felicitate with Nigerians on the occasion of the nation’s 66th Independence Anniversary, BON noted that the Nigerian media has been under serious economic pressure, which has made daily operations difficult due to high energy costs and dependence on imported broadcast equipment priced in foreign currency.
Despite these challenges, BON assured that the broadcast media will continue to promote national unity, equity and justice, as well as hold leaders accountable in line with its constitutional mandate.
The organisation further affirmed that the broadcast media will remain a purveyor of accurate, balanced and credible information that both the government and the governed can trust, in spite of the fake news, misinformation and disinformation pervading the social media space.
On security, BON commended the Federal Government for its concerted efforts to restore peace across the country.
The body also lauded the Military, the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies for their sacrifices in restoring and ensuring the security of lives and property.
E-signed.
