Bala Wunti to construct 10,000-Capacity Indoor Sports Hall at ATBU Bauchi.
The Chief Executive Officer of the World Energy Council Nigeria, Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti, has kicked off the construction of a multimillion-naira Multi-Purpose Indoor Sports Hall at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.
The state of the art facility, officially named the Bala Wunti Arena, will feature a 10,000-person seating capacity and is scheduled for completion within 50 weeks.
Speaking virtually at the official Award and Recognition Ceremony, Dr. Bala Wunti described the project as a heartfelt effort to give back to the institution that helped lay the foundation for his professional achievements.
He expressed optimism that investments in modern facilities like the Bala Wunti Arena would elevate ATBU and other Nigerian universities to compete more effectively on a global scale.
Dr. Bala Wunti announced that all construction materials will be sourced locally to help stimulate Bauchi’s economy and generate employment opportunities for youth.
Praising the collaborative nature of the venture, Dr. Wunti dubbed it a “project for ATBU by ATBU,” highlighting the importance of involving students directly in shaping the physical future of their academic environment.
At the ceremony, student architectural team W-Nexus emerged as the grand prize winner of the design competition, taking home a ₦5 million cash reward.
The first runner-up, Spartial Mind, received ₦4 million, while second runner-up Spartial Nexus earned ₦3 million.
Other student participants were awarded ₦1 million each, and the project assessment panel received ₦3 million for evaluating the entries.
Reiterating Dr. Wunti’s dedication to institutional growth, the CEO of the Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO), Malam Mukhtar Ahmed Jarmajo, commended the benefactor for his vision and expressed confidence that the project would be delivered strictly within its 50-week timeline.
In his closing address, ATBU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Hassan, expressed deep appreciation to Dr. Wunti for his philanthropy, noting that the arena represents a transformative investment in the university’s infrastructure, student creativity, and long-term development.
