BEWOF and SFH Unite in Bauchi to Tackle Gaps in HIV, TB, and Malaria Service Delivery

By Uzairu Dauda Bunga:

The Briskila Emefesi Women Foundation (BEWOF) paid a strategic advocacy visit to the Society for Family Health (SFH) in Bauchi State aimed at strengthening collaboration to improve healthcare service delivery under the Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) project.

The visit followed a series of supportive supervision activities conducted across selected health facilities in the state, which identified gaps affecting the delivery of services to malaria patients, people living with HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis (TB) patients, while also reviewing operational performance in the facilities.

Speaking on the CLM project, the ACOMIN State Coordinator, under ATN L, Mr. Munkaila Musa, emphasized that the initiative is focused on improving healthcare service delivery and bringing relief to patients across the project’s thematic areas.

He commended SFH for its warm reception and commitment to sustaining improved family health outcomes in the state.

Similarly, the NEPWHAN State Program and monitoring evaluation officer Mr Sylvester Ahiaba appreciated SFH’s continued responsiveness, support, and collaboration in strengthening services across supported facilities.

Presenting the findings, BEWOF Program Officer, Mr. Simon Reuben, provided an overview of the CLM project, highlighting its focus on enhancing service delivery for people living with HIV, key populations, TB patients, malaria cases, and the general population.

He also outlined the implementing facilities, their respective local government areas, and the challenges affecting service delivery.

He said key issues identified included shortages of HIV Determine test kits at PHCC Makarahuta Azare, PHCC Gida Dubu Bauchi, and NI’IMA Clinic Bauchi; inadequate supplies of condoms, lubricants, and PrEP at PHCC Yelwa Domiciliary; ARV stock challenges at PHCC Zaki; and limited availability of TB sputum containers at General Hospital Tafawa Balewa.

In response, the Society for Family Health team clarified that their current interventions cover two of the listed facilities—PHCC Zaki and PHCC Makarahuta Azare.

They assured BEWOF of continued support through the provision of HIV test kits, condoms, and lubricants via field officers in the respective local government areas.

On the issue of PrEP services, SFH explained that a stop-work order linked to policies under Donald Trump has limited their interventions to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

The SFH State Team Lead and Program Officer reaffirmed their commitment to supporting BEWOF through sustained engagement, collaboration, and joint efforts to address identified gaps and improve health outcomes across Bauchi State.
