The Emir of Duguri, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Duguri, has urged community leaders to intensify efforts to address the rising number of out-of-school children and curb vandalism of school facilities in the state.

Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Duguri gave the advice when the management of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB and UNICEF paid him an advocacy visit at his palace.

The Emir, who is a former Chairman of SUBEB, said the major challenge facing enrollment and protection of schools was the nonchalant attitude of communities in taking ownership and ensuring sustainability of properties provided by government, as well as failure to report perpetrators to authorities for appropriate action.

He called on the government to provide a comprehensive list containing the names of teachers from each district under Duguri Emirate Council and submit it to the district heads for proper monitoring and evaluation.

Alhaji Adamu Duguri charged the district heads to work in close collaboration with the Executive Secretary of Alkaleri Local Government Education Authority to ensure all eligible children attend school to completion.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Abubakar Isa Baba, said the visit was to seek the support of the Emir on enrollment drive and protection of schools against vandalism.
