The Bauchi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Dr. Lydia Haruna Tsammani, has urged government and relevant stakeholders in critical sectors, to improve the livelihood of children in Nigeria.

The Commissioner explained that her ministry remains committed to strengthening the child protection system and scaling up inclusive early childhood development programmes.

She also pledged to work with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to promote enrollment, retention and completion of education for every child as enshrined in the Bauchi State Child Protection Law.

Dr. Lydia Tsammani called on parents, teachers and partners to protect the rights of children as leaders of tomorrow.

She commended the Bauchi State Government for domesticating the Child Protection Law and urged the general public to support efforts to reduce the number of out of school children.

The Commissioner attributed challenges facing child education to poverty, misconceptions, harmful traditional practices, early marriage, violence, neglect and exploitation.

In her vote of thanks, a child protection advocate in the state, Hafsat Umar, thanked the Bauchi State Government for its efforts on child rights and protection and called for sustained support from the general public.

She urged children in Bauchi State to be educated, hardworking and creative as future leaders.
