Ningi Local Government council has reaffirmed its commitment to maintain its position as a leader in implementing the UNICEF-backed Fathers for Good Health initiative aimed at improving maternal, newborn, and child health while reducing zero-dose immunization rates in the state.
The Executive Chairman Ningi Local Goverment council, Alhaji Nasiru Zakarai, made this declaration during the Fathers for Good Health awards ceremony organized by the Bauchi State Government in collaboration with UNICEF’s Bauchi Field Office, held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Bauchi.
Alhaji Zakarai, emphasized that the primary goal of effective leadership is to ensure the health, education, and social welfare of citizens, pledged to sustain these efforts, particularly for children and pregnant women in Ningi LGA.
The chairman attributed the LGA’s success to several factors, including the dedication of health workers, regular supervision, and support for Fathers for Good Health groups, these groups, comprising community volunteers, play a critical role in improving health outcomes by mobilizing fathers and caregivers to prioritize antenatal care and child immunization.
The Chairman noted that Ningi LGA’s efforts exemplify the impact of community-driven health initiatives by fostering collaboration and prioritizing maternal and child health, the LGA continues to set a benchmark for others in the state and beyond.
He also commended the support provided by Bauchi State Governor and UNICEF’s Bauchi Field Office, particularly in capacity-building efforts for health workers and volunteers.
In an interview with the leader of the Best Performing Fathers for Good Health group in Ningi LGA, Najash Adamu Ningi, described the initiative as a community-driven effort to improve maternal and child health.
Malam Najash explained that they were using their resources and mutual interactions to mobilize caregivers, refer them to health facilities, and ensure pregnant women attend and complete antenatal care while their children receive full immunization against preventable diseases.
Similarly, the leader of the Second Best Performing Fathers for Good Health group from Misau LGA, Malam Dalhat Mai Ladi Misau, expressed his determination to excel further.
He said despite the economic challenges, they are committed to reaching every corner of their LGA to encourage fathers to improve antenatal care and child immunization. This award has motivated us to work even harder to secure the top position next time.
