Bauchi Assembly Passes Bill to Boost Tech Startups and Digital Entrepreneurship

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has passed into law a Bill seeking to establish a regulatory framework for the development of technology enabled startups, innovation driven enterprises and digital entrepreneurship in the state.

The Bill was considered and presented before the House during plenary by the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Commerce and Industry, Lawal Dauda, at a sitting presided over by the Speaker, Dr Abubakar Y. Suleiman.

Presenting the Committee’s report, Lawal Dauda said the Committee had invited relevant stakeholders and deliberated extensively on the provisions of the Bill, examining its objectives, implications and potential impact on modern enterprises and digital entrepreneurship.

He explained that the legislation was designed to provide opportunities and address emerging challenges in technology driven businesses, while creating an enabling environment for the development of a knowledge based economy in Bauchi State.

According to the Committee, the law will provide a legal and institutional framework to support commercial growth, youth empowerment, talent development and socioeconomic advancement through innovation and digital enterprise.

The Committee said the law was necessary to promote the digitalization of enterprises and entrepreneurship, strengthen innovation and create opportunities for young people and other entrepreneurs.

Lawal Dauda further said the legislation is expected to contribute to economic development and employment opportunities in Bauchi State.
