Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has urged the National Association of Alumni of Universities to champion reforms that will reposition Nigeria’s education system for innovation, job creation, and economic growth.
The Governor who made the call when members of the association paid him a courtesy visit at Government House Bauchi, stressed the need for collective efforts to strengthen the country’s higher education system.
He emphasised that universities must become engines of development by producing graduates equipped with relevant skills in Information and Communication Technology, agriculture, science, technology, and entrepreneurship, rather than unemployable certificate holders.

The Governor explained that revisiting curricula to align with global practices was critical, noting that education should go beyond classrooms to address unemployment, drive innovation, and support small and medium-scale enterprises.
He then assured the alumni of his administration’s commitment to supporting education and called on graduates in privileged positions to give back, describing education as the most vital tool for sustainable development.
Earlier, the National President of the Association, Professor Yakubu Aboki Ochefu said they were in Bauchi for a national delegates’ conference aimed at discussing and proffering solutions to challenges bedeviling Nigerian universities.
He commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his administration’s sustained investment in education, describing it as a critical step toward repositioning the sector and improving the quality of graduates across the country.
