A General Surgeon and Specialist in Surgical Oncology with thr Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi Dr. Adamu Ningi said a woman’s breast is not only for her if she wants to be prevented from breast cancer.
Dr. Ningi stated this in Bauchi on Sunday during the 2023 breast cancer awareness day and 5-kilometer walk, organised by BIK Foundation in collaboration with Alheri YS Foundation, VC Jones Care Foundation and AABA Life Foundation.
The doctor, who encouraged women to get married within the age of 24 and 25 years and start procreation, explained that the last five months of pregnancy protected the breast from breast cancer.
Also speaking at the end of the 5-kilometre awareness walk, Mr Ibrahim Kashim, the Secretary to the Bauchi state government who is also the founder of BIK Foundation, said testing facilities had been made available for women to be screened for the deadly disease.
Speaking on behalf of the foundations, Aisha Bappa from Alheri YS Foundation, commended the state government for supporting the annual advocacy programme, adding that the exercise would go a long way in enlightening women in the state.
The theme of the 2023 Breast Cancer Awareness Day is ‘Let Hope Light the Way, Walk Against Breast Cancer.
