Bauchi State Government has launched the implementation of research project for optimizing adherence to multiple micro-nutrient supplementation for pregnant women in three selected Local government areas in the state.
The project aimed at addressing the burden of maternal mortality among women of reproductive age, is a collaboration between the State Government, Federal Ministry of Health and Nutrition International.
Eighty Four Health Care Centers have been selected for administration of the supplements on forty five thousand targeted pregnant women from Dass, Ganjuwa and Giade local government areas.
Inaugurating the project at Government House Bauchi, Governor Bala Mohammed underscored the importance of the programme and assured that the state government would fulfill all it obligations including payment of counterparts towards successful implementation of the project.
Governor Bala Mohammed represented by the Secretary to the State Government Barrister Ibrahim Kashim appreciated the development partners for complementing the efforts of his administration on improving the maternal nutrition of women in the state.
The country Director, Nutrition International Dr. Osita Okonkwo said over nine hundred thousand bottles of the supplement which would serve as alternative to Iron Folic Acid have been distributed to health facilities across the selected local government areas
He commended the state government for it commitment to implement all programmes aimed at improving the wellbeing of the citizens.
