Bauchi MDAs advised to register with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.


The Bauchi State House of Assembly has called on the state government to make it mandatory for MDAs and institutions in Bauchi to register with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

The Member representing Chinade/Madara constituency Dr. Nasiru Ahmed Ala made the call in a motion he moved during plenary.

Presenting the motion, Dr. Ala said the move became necessary and is in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission’s directing all the public and private organizations in Nigeria to register with the commission for safety and privacy of citizens rights and freedom.

According to him, to protection of of individual’s freedom and rights is sacrosanct, adding that Data privacy is not just a matter of personal security but a fundamental human rights.

Dr. Ala revealed that, unauthorized access to personal information, identity theft, blackmail through confidential information, manipulation of personal data online and the lost of personal records are not just potential threats, they are real and present dangers that confront the society.
